A tradition begun almost 2000 years ago, the ancient Korean Knights called the HWA RANG were gentlemen of high intelligence and nobility who were known as the fiercest fighting sect in all Asia. With their superlative fighting skills and adherence to a strict code of ethics history documents literally thousands of incidents of their extraordinary and heroic deeds
Forced to disband in the 13th century, they went into seclusion in the Buddhist monasteries high in the mountains. It was here that the Lee brothers began their training.
In 1960 they opened the first public HWA RANG DO school. In 1969 Joo Bang Lee was named 58th generation SUPREME GRANDMASTER!
Yum, Ki Nam,one of the Lee Brothers first students, arrived in the New York City metropolitan area to help spread this dynamic art. He quickly established the World Hwa Rang Do Association East Coast Headquarters in New Jersey. Under the leadership of Do Joo Nim Lee, Kuksa Nim Yum and the YUM Brothers; the proud traditions of the ancient Hwa Rang are being continued today.
