HWA RANG DO is a highly developed martial that relies on a balance of mind and body, it includes all forms of personal combat and mental dimensions with the physical disciplines in such a way as to enable the martial artist to realize his/her full potentials.
The germinal seed of this concept is embodies in the logo of the UM-YANG symbol, meaning the unity or interactions of two opposites, therefore to understand the natural laws and to live with a deep appreciation for humanity.
HWA RANG DO concepts are founded on 4 basics divisions of power:
INNER, OUTER, WEAPON & MENTAL.
- NAE GONG (Inner Power) Deals with training methods for developing Ki (or Chi) The study of Ki involves breathing, meditation and circulation. Ki is the power, the dynamic force is in our universe. The goal is to unify the mind and body to the point that this dynamic power is within all techniques.
- WAE GONG (Outer Power) Relates to the external techniques. These are broken down into 21 sub-divisions into which the individual techniques are organized. These include pressure point techniques, joint manipulations, throwing, falling techniques as well as kicking and punching. These techniques are further divided into “Hard” and “Soft” types.
- MOO GI GONG (Weapon Power) Deals with weapons training such as the sword, spear, short stick, throwing dirks and so on…
- SHING GONG (Mental Power) Involves the minds control of Ki, dealing with acupuncture and the study of human types.
